Unex receives recognition for sustainability at Positive Industry Day by amec

amec reconoce a Unex como empresa sostenible

Amec acknowledged our sustainability achievements, particularly in the areas of innovation in technical thermoplastics, product life cycle management, and long-term business continuity.

ciclo de vidaAt Unex, we view sustainability as development that addresses current needs without jeopardising the ability of future generations to meet theirs — a vision embedded throughout the company. This perspective, rooted in our origins, has driven us to innovate in the manufacture of technical thermoplastics, to oversee the full product life cycle, and to strengthen a family-owned and independent company with a long-term focus. Today, our journey has been honoured with the Sustainable Impact Award from amec, an organisation that unites Spain’s leading globalised industries and supports their international competitiveness, during the 2025 Positive Industry Day.

This milestone fills us with pride and drives us to offer deeper insight into how we work.

We implement our vision of sustainability as an integrated approach that links all areas within Unex. This takes shape through the development of insulating cable management solutions, the majority of which are single-material and 90% recyclable. More and more, we incorporate raw materials with recycled thermoplastic content, such as U48X and U43X. We place value on people’s well-being and on ensuring the continuity of the organisation. Every technical advancement and every decision forms part of a single system geared towards generating value for the industry.

This approach is grounded in the historic Brundtland Report by the United Nations, which defined sustainability as ‘meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own.’ Over time, this vision has evolved into the triple bottom line model — environmental, social and economic — now widely adopted by companies and international organisations. This framework guides our strategy and is translated into measurable and verifiable results, supported by Environmental Product Declarations (PEP ecopassport®), which certify the environmental impact of our main product ranges throughout their entire life cycle.

Environmental Commitment

LEEDOur new LEED-certified headquarters represents a tangible expression of our commitment to the environment. Compared to a conventional building, we have achieved a 40% overall reduction in energy consumption, with 16% of our energy demand met by renewable sources. Natural light reaches over 90% of the interior spaces, and water usage has been reduced by 36%, along with a 95% reduction in irrigation system use.

In terms of products, we were the first in our field to formulate raw materials containing 100% recycled thermoplastic content (U43X and U48X), used in trays, trunking, and other ranges. In addition, we obtained RoHS certification long before it was required, guaranteeing that our products are free from certain hazardous substances.

Our environmental strategy also follows a cradle-to-grave life-cycle approach, evaluating each stage of our products, from the sourcing of raw materials to their final disposal.

This methodology is embodied in Product Environmental Declarations (PEP ecopassport®), which are issued in compliance with ISO 14025, quantifying critical indicators such as energy use, CO₂ emissions, water consumption, and recyclability, to support transparent and objective comparison. Thanks to their level of detail and transparency, they rank among the most stringent verification standards in the industry, offering reliable data to clients and specifiers for their projects.

Social and Economic Commitment

60yearsThe well-being of our team is a core element of our social focus. We promote mental health, mindfulness, and conflict resolution programmes. We also invest in training and encourage involvement in sustainability projects, enabling each individual to integrate concrete objectives into their daily work. This allows each team member to align personal actions with tangible objectives. In doing so, we look after those who make up Unex and ensure our practices are consistent with our mission.

Corporate sustainability means resilience and long-term continuity. For over sixty years (720 months, 525,600 hours, or 31,536,000 minutes of ongoing effort), we have remained an independent, family-run company with a long-term outlook shaping every decision.

Furthermore, we manufacture entirely in Europe, which brings us closer to our customers. This proximity enables prompt service, full traceability, and the flexibility to respond quickly to the needs of distributors and installers. Together with direct control of production, this closeness ensures that every solution reaches the market with the quality and lead times demanded by the sector — even in times of global uncertainty.

This approach is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are guided by SDG 9 in our focus on industrial innovation. SDG 12 motivates our commitment to responsible consumption and recycled materials, and SDG 13 drives our efforts to cut emissions and combat climate change.

Positive and Safe Industry

industria positivaOur slogan ‘Keeping you safer’ expresses our commitment to safety at every stage. It is backed by a technical and rigorous working methodology that sees sustainability as a key element of long-term protection.

At Unex, we have made this approach tangible through technical thermoplastic materials with environmental data sheets that are recyclable and contain recycled content, which — despite the challenges — we have successfully transformed industrially and made available to our customers, while guaranteeing their quality.

Being honoured by amec — a benchmark in advancing a sustainable and global industry — with the Sustainability Award at the Positive Industry Day 2025 reinforces our industrial resilience and inspires us to continue. We thank amec for this recognition, which reflects the shared commitment of our team, clients, and collaborators.
